TOM HUDSON: What are Safety Net Hospitals experiencing now with COVID-19 patients throughout the state? JUSTIN SENIOR: There has been a bit of a bump in the number of COVID patients over the last several weeks. It is not yet at anywhere near the level that it was back in July. Hospitalizations peaked back in July in terms of the number of patients in Florida who are in the hospital with a primary diagnosis of COVID at just under 10,000 patients. Sixty thousand hospital beds in the state with about 10,000 patients back in July. It was extremely heavy in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Lee counties as well as Palm Beach. Read Article
Florida’s COVID-19 hospitalizations rising, hospitals prepared
Florida added another 8,800 cases Tuesday, putting the Sunshine State over the one million mark, while also adding 82 additional deaths, bringing total resident deaths to more than 18,600. -- As case numbers go up, so do hospitalizations. More than 55,000 Floridians have been hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began. In recent weeks, Florida's current COVID-19 patient counts have risen by the day. Read Article
COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to mount in Florida
Health officials in Florida are closely monitoring the situation in the Sunshine State, where numbers are still far below the record hospitalization totals from the summer. However, medical officials warn this resurgence will get worse without a renewed focus on social distancing, wearing face coverings, and hand washing. The latest numbers from the state Monday night show 3,243 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s a 31% increase from just two weeks ago, and up about 58% from last month. Read Article
Norwegian family revisits Jacksonville, 5 years after UF Health Proton Therapy Institute saved son’s life
Theodor, then 3, was diagnosed with a brain tumor, underwent multiple surgeries in Norway and had a 50-50 chance of survival, his father said. Doctors recommended treatment 4,500 miles away at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, which uses a targeted form of radiation therapy.
